About the event
Pilates is a low-impact whole-body exercise method offering a mind-body-connection and designed to establish good posture and healthy movement patterns. Regular Pilates practice strengthens the body, improves mobility and flexibility, can help to manage pain, prevent injury and reduce stress.
Over 10 sessions, you will be learning new and progressive Pilates repertoire which will challenge your core, your mobility and coordination. You will continue to  learn about good posture and alignment of your bones, and how to use your breath to support your movement. During the course you will have access to videos relating to the course program allowing you to practice at home in between sessions and speed up your progress. On completion, you will have gained confidence in moving safely through a range of challenging exercises and improved your strength, balance and coordination.Â
Who is this course for?
The Pilates exercises will be practiced on the Mat either lying, sitting or standing. Small props may also be used. You need to be able to sit down on the floor and stand up again without support or assistance. If you are over 65 years of age please contact us first before booking.Â
How much does it cost?
The overall course fee is $190 for 10 sessions at 50min length each. The group size is limited to 8-10 students.Â
About your teacher:
My name is Marisa and I live in the hills of Franklin in the Huon Valley, Tasmania. I am the owner of Pilates in the Valley, a boutique Pilates studio equipped with a Reformer, Springboard, Pilates Chair, Ped-o-Pull and small apparatus. In my studio, I see clients for one-on-one or duo sessions offering a personalised training that caters for individual needs. These sessions are perfect for a deep dive into movement analysis, skills-based exercises, repatterning and addressing specific movement goals or limitations. Group classes are ideal for generally healthy people with reasonable movement abilities, maybe experiencing some little pains and niggles that need addressing. In group settings (4 plus people) I focus on a general strength and mobility building program with some room for exercises modifications.
I am a fully qualified Contemporary Pilates Teacher with qualifications from National Pilates Training (Melbourne), and further Studio Pilates training from Balanced Body Australia. My teaching is informed by the Biomechanics of Human Movement and how exercises (with or without equipment) can be used to learn efficient movement strategies to manage and or prevent pain and injury. I am a member of the Pilates Alliance Australia and have an ongoing mentoring relationship for professional development and guidance. I believe in the power of continuous learning and an open and flexible mind to respond and work with the changes we experience and seek to create.
